Where I Babywear – At the park
Last week, I got a rare chance to wear Avonlea in a sling when we went to the park. I say rare because – truth be told – my baby doesn’t really like babywearing. I know, I know. Cue the shock and horror. Believe me, I’m just as baffled as you are. But it’s true. From birth she has always hated being confined, whether it be in a swaddle or a sling. When she sleeps, she stretches her arms high above her head like she’s dreaming of touchdowns or doing the YMCA. She despises being hot and will voice her opinion – loudly – if I so much as step outside with her when the temperature is above 80 degrees.
So for her, being strapped up against me, legs confined and sweating profusely, isn’t preferred. I can get about five or ten minutes out of her and then she’s squawking to be taken out. If I put her in a carrier asleep, she’ll wake up. She actually sleeps better in the bucket seat (much to the dismay of my wimpy arm muscles). And she’d rather hang out on a blanket on the floor than be cuddled up to me. Right now, the only time I wear her is when we drop Sawyer off and pick him up from school. A combined total of about 10 minutes, which she still sometimes protests. I’m not complaining though – her easy-going nature makes my life a hell of a lot easier.
So anyway, here we are at the park, Avonlea in the Peanut Shell. She lasted about 15 minutes. It was nice.
my daughter is the same way! she sleeps with her arms out like she is waiting to be crucified. and i’m dealing with the ” mom, i’d rather be on the floor (not on my tummy though) with you in my face, then snuggle ” … wth, i thought babies were snuggly. ugh.
and a quick nod to the poop post… i hope and pray that is a boy thing. i have heard of several stories like yours (though mostly pee related) and they were all boys.
Oh my lord is she ever adorable! My son was like you described, but he’s seemed to outgrow that. he loves being packed around and loves sitting in your lap now, though.
Just proof that every baby is different! I must admit, I love babywearing, but there are definitely days that I would prefer to have a baby that would lay contentedly by themself! Maybe next time!

Dude, my kid would NEVER let me put her in a sling as a baby. No way. And she slept with her arms up too. No swaddling, no confinement, no nothing. I got lucky as she got older because she loves to cuddle now. Unfortunately, she still doesn’t like to be confined. In clothes. Yeah.
